Moved Plants Around

Moved the plants around hopefully to make maintenance a little easier as they take over the world. The older back three plants are growing a little over 25mm every 24 hours, one middle one drank over 3 gal of water in 2 days. The middle plants are a week behind and the lonely one out front is a couple of  weeks behind all of 'em.

Making FECO for a MCT oil infusion, MsBubba's favorite way to use Cannabis.

Love the Source machine, it saves 90% or so of the Alcohol used to extract the FECO. The alcohol comes out clean, when finished extracting the FECO just decant the reclaimed alcohol and put in the freezer so it is ready for the next use.

Pot #2 Is A Beast

Pot #2 went thru 4 gal of water/feed in <4 days. It has grown almost 2" in less than a day. The other three plants that were potted at the same time are not far behind #2, all are covered with buds that if things go as previous GG4 auto grows have gone the the buds will fill out to almost hand sized cholas covered with beautiful frost.

I forgot to flip to the view light for the photo. The current light schedule is Red 99%, White 99%, Blue 39% running 18 hours on, 6 hours off. That light schedule will hold till the last couple of weeks before harvest when I will add  3 hours of UV-B to the mix.

As posted earlier I had planned on a ½ and ½ grow, four DWC and four Coco Coir to see which I liked best. In the mess of seeds not popping that plan got thrown out the window and some way, somehow I ended up with seven DWC plants and one Coco Coir plant. Not enough Coco Coir plants to make a good evaluation/comparison but from the one I can tell that Coco Coir is likely less work than DWC at least with my set up. It is also growing slightly slower than the DWC plant that was potted at the same time. Harvest time will tell more.

Start of Week Five GG4 Auto's

Starting of week 5 for three of the GG4's, 2nd week of flower light spectrum schedule. Expected harvest end of March:

A closer look:

There is a good chance the plants will approach a meter or more in height by harvest as they are stretching very quickly at this time, you can almost see them grow by the hour.

There are eight plants in the tent, three in week 5, two in week 4, two in week 3 and a half, and one in week 2.

A PIA to have 'em spread out like that but it is what it is, seeds popped at different times and some didn't pop and needed replacements to fill the tent.

When times are spread out each plant needs different nutrients and light spectrum the saving grace is because all plants are Autoflower light/dark ratio remains 18/6 until harvest. My compromise if you can call it that is to run the oldest plant's light spectrum for all of 'em.

So far this is the most promising grow yet, after correcting a pH problem for a couple of the plants all are healthy, green and growing.

BTW, GG4 is one of the recommended cultivars for pressing Rosin. I've received the Rosin press, silicone coated parchment paper and 90 micron press bags. I've some flower that is in the range of pressable water content but not fresh. Tempted to try to press some just for grins instead of waiting for the new crop GG4 knowing I'm not likely to have great results but it could be good practice so I don't waste the good stuff learning how.

Week Four of Current Grow

I have four DWC pots (all pots have GG4 Autos) in their fourth week and in flower. There are three DWC pots in their third week not yet in flower and one fabric pot with Coco Coir in its third week also not in flower.

A couple of observations as this grow is in new media for me. First is DWC is more work than soil. Coco Coir may be less work. The Coco pot is the plant on the lower right, it was transplanted at the same time as the DWC directly above and slightly left. The DWC plant is maybe 20% larger than the Coco plant.

The DWC plants along the top have yellowed new growth leaves. Most likely from too high pH. The one on the right showed signs of a pH problem first, followed a day later by the one on the left. Both are being corrected but it takes a day or two to show, the plant on the right has almost completely recovered.

The more work for DWC comes from the need to monitor pH closely. As this is my first DWC rodeo I do not know if it is normal but the pot pH is not stable and can get out of range quickly. I expect if I do another DWC grow the pots will be on low stands with a valve for H2O sample collection. The Coco Coir is a joy. It takes a gal. of pH adjusted neuts every three to four days and when tested on the third or fourth day the 'soil' pH is the same as the pH of the last feeding. You may not be able to see it from the photo but the Coco plant is really healthy looking.

My original plan was to have four DWC plants and four Coco Coir plants of the same cultivar and then see if there was a difference and if there was which produced the most prime bud. I forget why that plan was not implemented but whatever by the end of March I should have harvested eight GG4s.

If I don't go wild making edibles and concentrates the eight should produce enough flower to last the year. If not, then there is always the local dispensary. It is good to live in a "legal" state, my bad foot, knee and back along with my liver thank so as well. I would hate to go back to prescription or over the counter pain meds.

A Rare Treat

I was at my work bench when I noticed a Gila Monster slowly walk into the shop and settle down behind the bandsaw: The bad news is there is...
